I-14 – Electrocatalysis at the electrode solid-electrolyte interface

The focus of this symposium will be on electrochemical reactions and physical phenomena occurring at the interface of electrocatalysts and solid ionic conductors. Presentations will encompass fundamental and applied studies, as well as experimental and theoretical research. Contributions from applied research are expected to emphasize electrocatalytic processes in devices that largely rely on the use of solid-state ionic conductors, which include but are not limited to (i) fuel cells, (ii) batteries, (iii) redox flow batteries, (iv) polymer electrolyzers and (v) certain types of supercapacitors. The symposium is designed to provide a platform for the discussion of key issues in electrocatalysis, professional collaboration, advanced education, and dissemination of the latest accomplishments in electrocatalysis in ionically conducting electrolytes. Electrocatalytic reactions of interest are, for example, oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen evolution reaction OER), hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR), carbon dioxide reduction, oxidation of organic fuels, electrosynthesis, and bio-electrocatalytic processes. Presentations specifically targeting enhanced understanding of the phenomena governing the rate of electrocatalytic processes at the electrode/solid-electrolyte interface are of particular interest, as are contributions concentrating on the impact of physical/chemical interaction of the polymer with electrocatalyst on the structure of the electrical double layer, electrochemical reaction rates and, possibly, mass transport phenomena (e.g., the diffusion rate of a reagent to the active site).

The symposium is expected to bring together highly-accomplished experts in the crosscutting fields of electrocatalysis, polymer chemistry and materials sciences.
